Fred the turtle

my first pattern. thought i'd post it here. if you get confused leave a comment and i'll try to help you out.

Photobucket

It all started when I was looking for a turtle pattern and couldn’t find a suitable pattern. So I made one up. Here it is for your enjoyment

I used a G hook and Red Heart Super Saver in camouflage for the shell and an F hook and Red Heart Super Saver in sand for the head and legs. I used two different hooks because there is a difference in the weight of the 2 colorways. It you use the same weight yarn do not switch hooks. You will also need a tapestry needle to sew the pieces together.

Gauge is not important. You should crochet as tightly as possible to prevent the stuffing from showing through.

The pattern is not very difficult but you do need a basic understanding of amigurumi construction. Uses SC along with increase and decrease stitches.

Start with the upper shell:

Row 1: SC 6 into an adjustable ring and pull tight. Do not join. Use a stitch marker to mark first stitch of row (6 SC)

Row 2: 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)

Row 3: 2 SC in every second stitch (18 SC)

Row 4: 2 SC in every third stitch (24 SC)

Row 5: 2 SC in every fourth stitch (30 SC)

Row 6: 2 SC in every fifth stitch (36 SC)

Row 7: 2 SC in every sixth stitch (42 SC)

Row 8: 2 SC in every seventh stitch (48 SC)

Row 9: 2 SC in every eighth stitch (54 SC)

Rows 10 – 14: SC around (54 SC)

Row 15: 2 SC in each stitch around working front loop only. (108 SC)

Slip stitch into first SC and fasten off

For the bottom shell repeat rows 1 -9 of upper shell. Slip stitch into first SC and fasten off

Now make four legs:

Row 1: SC 6 into an adjustable ring and pull tight. Do not join. Use a stitch marker to mark first stitch of row (6 SC)

Row 2: 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)

Rows 3 – 6: SC around (12 SC)

Row 7: *decrease, 1 SC repeat from * till end of round (8 SC)

Rows 8 – 10: SC around. (8 SC)

Slip stitch into first SC and fasten off leaving a long tail.

Now make the head:

Row 1: SC 6 into an adjustable ring and pull tight. Do not join. Use a stitch marker to mark first stitch of row (6 SC)

Row 2: 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)

Row 3: 2 SC in every second stitch (18 SC)

Row 4: 2 SC in every third stitch (24 SC)

Rows 5 – 9: SC around (24 SC)

Row 10: *decrease, 1 SC repeat from * till end of round (12 SC)

Rows 11&12: SC around (12 SC)

Row 13: *decrease, 1 SC repeat from * till end of round (8 SC)

Rows 14 – 16: SC around (8 SC)

Slip stitch into first SC and fasten off leaving a long tail.

Assembly:

Stuff head and legs. Sew four stitches each of head and 2 legs near front of upper shell leaving a small space between head and legs. You should be sewing along the leftover loops of the 14th row of upper shell. Sew bottom shell to remaining stitches of head and legs and stitches of upper shell between head and legs.

Sew upper and bottom shell together for 3 inches then sew a leg on. Sew upper and bottom shell together for another 2 inches then sew last leg on. Stuff shell and sew closed.

blog necromancy. GO!

ok so i'm going to try to update this semi-regularly for 2011 starting now. so without further ado here it goes.

it's the beggining of term over at the hpkchc so it's time for a magic awesome plan to be formed:

Charms: the Trace: taking a note from SarahTheEntwife i will be making a camera pouch.

HoM: something representing house unity or a hat: something chat related maybe

DADA: repel hexes: cro-baktus to repel the dreaded giraffe neck hex

Potions: ingredients for invigorating potion: not sure if i'll do this one. cant think of something that i do to invigorate myself

Herbology: mushrooms: magic shrooms

Flying: something to keep warm on a broom: another cro-baktus? or a cowl.

Divination: scrying for the new year: i really want to have an awesome steampunk outfit for comic-con this year. maybe some accessories?

O.W.L : Charms: sidewalk shawl in white. going to have to figure out a way to make it not white when i finish it. any tips on dyeing acrylic?

changed my mind!

i'm going to do 2 maybe 3 knit scarves for my CoMC owl as the bowtruckles option. this is perfect as i've been telling my brother i'd make him a scarf for a couple months now so he'll get his in time for winter. oh yeah and as of sorting i am in slytherin. hiss hiss slytherin! time for a change in decoration.

what to do what to do.

so in gearing up for my first term at the hpkchc i've run into a snag. i dont want to swatch. actually thats a lie. i just dont want to swatch now. at least not until i figure out how many of the damned things i'm doing. my plan is to make a bunch of animals that i've promised people but i dont know how many different things the examiners will want me to do. i've been known to whip stuff up that i thought would take me forever in a matter of hours and stuff that i thought would only take me a little while end up taking me forever. ugh anyway gotta do this swatching thing i guess. maybe i'll do as they suggest and make them into a fun little scarf.
